We won twice at the German Sustainability Award 2025
06.11.2024 | by Hilal AlbabaWe have won the German Sustainability Award twice!
What an honor! We have won the German Sustainability Award 2025 twice in the “Resources” transformation field: once as a company in the “Packaging” category and once in the broader “Product” category for our one-of-a-kind technology for processing cereal straw into insulation material.
The German Sustainability Award has been awarded annually since 2008 and is Europe’s largest award of its kind. A jury of experts selects the finalists and then the winner from among the nominees.
The unique process we have developed is internationally patented and allows pure straw fibers without binders or other additives to be produced into compostable insulation materials for packaging, buildings and industry. This technology allows straw fibers to be processed while retaining their high-tech biomechanical structure. It works without producing waste water, requires no additives and has a very low energy consumption.
We have been using this process for ten years to produce the Landbox Straw, a compostable insulating packaging made from pure straw fibers as a high-performance alternative to polystyrene boxes. The Landbox is the preferred choice of leading biotech, food and industrial companies. After its use as insulating packaging, the Landbox can be recycled via the organic waste and is fully compostable. The nutrients thus remain in the natural cycle and biogas is also produced for decentralized green energy generation.
Winning the German Sustainability Award twice recognizes our efforts to achieve genuine ecological distinctiveness and benefits for customers and the planet.
Back in 2016, we received the Next Economy Award, which is the German Sustainability Award for green start-ups.
In 2020, Landpack was nominated for the German Sustainability Award in the “Design” category.
“We are very proud of this great honor, which recognizes our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” says Dr. Thomas Maier-Eschenlohr, CEO of Landpack. “Sustainability is at the core of our business model. This also includes using a local residual raw material and processing it on-site with renewable energy sources. We have perfected the concept of sustainability with our technology and are very pleased that this has been recognized and appreciated by experts.”
